The NCERT books are updated from time to time to stay progressive and cover the latest and recent things discovered or found or derived and so on. So, this is the list of old NCERT books for IAS preparation:

  • India’s Ancient Past- This book is just a replacement for Ancient India, but it covers every aspect in more detail. The author for both of them is RS Sharma.
  • Medieval India for Class 9th This book is the basic history book for the students of class 9th
  • History of Medieval India- This book is a substitute for Medieval India, but is more detailed and comprehensive. Maybe difficult to understand, that is why NCERT is preferred. Author is Satish Chandra.
  • Modern India for Class 10thReferred to as the best book for history lessons and UPSC preparations. Author is Bipin Chandra.
  • India before Independence- The NCERT prescribed book for class 10th students. This book is easier to read, as it is more to the point.
  • World History for Class 10thBasic book on the history of various important events in the history of the world.
