The Indian Administrative Services is the civil service of the highest form in India. It is considered the most favorable and respected profession in the country. This exam requires the right preparation, but the student’s complete dedication, and then some more dedication. Unfortunately, I cannot provide the dedication, but I can provide the way to prepare.

1. NCERT History Books

Talk about old NCERT books for UPSC preparation (See what I did there? No? Umm-). These books cover basic history knowledge and are useful while studying the history of our country.

• NCERT 6^th Class History book- The name of the book is “Our Past.” 
• NCERT 7^th Class History book- The name of the book is “Our Past 1.”
• NCERT 8^th Class History book- The name of the book is “Our Past 2 and 3.”
• NCERT 9^th Class History book- The name of the book is “India and the Contemporary World.”
• NCERT 9^th Class History book- The name of the book is “India and the Contemporary World 2.”
• NCERT 10^th Class History book- The name of the book is “Themes in World History.”

The good old political science. These books provide a basic outlook on the political struggles of our nation from Independence. They are beautifully written and even provide additional information in the form of various caricatures. The list of NCERT books for IAS preparation for Political Science:

So, it is only natural that an administrator should be well learned on the political struggle of his ancestors to pave a road to development, learn from their mistakes and make the country a better place. 1. Science books have made their way into the world of administration. Science is really important to carry out practical tasks daily in the life of an administrator. One need not be a science geek to learn about Science, and these books provide just the pure foundations for further studies.

• NCERT 6^th Class Science Book- The name of the book is “Science: Textbook for class 6.”
• NCERT 7^th Class Science Book- The name of the book is “Science: Textbook for class 7.”

An administrator’s life is always on the line for his people, and Science can come in handy any day of his/her life when dealing with any issues. Knowing what to apply to a wound, knowing how to treat a common illness, and Science answers questions like that.

7. Old NCERT Books

The NCERT books are updated from time to time to stay progressive and cover the latest and recent things discovered or found or derived and so on. So, this is the list of old NCERT books for IAS preparation:

• Ancient India for Class 11^th– This book is ideal for covering the whole of ancient Indian history thoroughly.
• India’s Ancient Past- This book is just a replacement for Ancient India, but it covers every aspect in more detail. The author for both of them is RS Sharma.
• Medieval India for Class 9^th– This book is the basic history book for the students of class 9^th. 
• History of Medieval India- This book is a substitute for Medieval India, but is more detailed and comprehensive. Maybe difficult to understand, that is why NCERT is preferred. Author is Satish Chandra.
• Modern India for Class 10^th– Referred to as the best book for history lessons and UPSC preparations. Author is Bipin Chandra.
• India before Independence- The NCERT prescribed book for class 10^th students. This book is easier to read, as it is more to the point.
• World History for Class 10^th– Basic book on the history of various important events in the history of the world.

These books contain some important knowledge that may or may not be included in the updated versions or removed from them. This was the list of old NCERT books for UPSC preparation.
